You’ve been feasting on the finest food all night long, shared lots of glass-clinking, guest-encouraged first kisses, and danced until your stunning stilettos have all but fallen off, but there’s still one last thing you need to do (well, other than to live happily-ever-after): join hands and cut into that gorgeous, multi-tiered piece of art while your photographer snaps, snaps, snaps. “How Sweet It Is” will play in the background, your guests will collectively “awwww” when you both try to sweetly feed each other, and you’ll try not to die over the magic that is happening in your mouths.
It’s true, we haven’t met a dessert bar we didn’t like, but we’ll always have a sweet spot for wedding cakes. We work with some of Long Island’s most celebrated local confectioners – from Francesco’s to Dortoni’s – and when our couples leave for the night, top tier all packed up for them to share on their first anniversary, they’re never sorry they ‘took the cake.’ If they didn’t, it’d be a damn shame!
In any case, we’re constantly blown away by what our bakeries and couples bring to life. So, we thought we’d round up a handful of Leonard’s Palazzo staffer-obsessed wedding cakes in honor of National Cake Day, which happens later this month (November 26). From classic buttercream beauties, to flawless fondant favorites, these cakes have it all. And that’s just from what we see on the outside, the flavors going on inside are next-level!
The Royal Treatment.
At Leonard’s Palazzo, treating our couples like they’re King and Queen for the day is a #1 priority. So, a cake that looks like it could have come out of a London-based bakery, headed to a royal reception, is a very regular thing for our weddings. Something like this four-tiered white masterpiece is the most modern interpretation of royal resplendence – total glam. From the ornate embossing on alternating tiers to the silver glitter banding on each of their bottoms, the impact is Instagram-worthy and then some. And we can arrange for the cake cutting to happen with your tufted chair sweetheart table in the background, so the look is even loftier!

On-Point Appliqué.
Another vibe that we love is a beautifully-frosted buttercream dream decorated with a statement motif. Something like this soft textured ivory cake covered with an elaborate, multi-petaled gum paste flower is absolutely jaw-dropping. The gold metallic lining around each of the petals is the perfect touch, adding some dimension and edge to the overall effect. What’s great about a cake like this is is that it blends simple and sophisticated so seamlessly. And the glitter Mr. & Mrs. cake topper is just solid gold, too.

Mixed Media Mood.
And then, there’s a creation like this. It’s so fun to look at on its own, but then you get into the details and it’s even more delicious. All four tiers are covered in fondant, but they’re manipulated in some way to create a different aesthetic in every layer. The glossy blush pink and white flowers are eye-catching at the bottom and top of the cake, with the quilted pattern serving as such a regal backdrop behind it. The top two tiers are covered in color-matched sugar flower appliqués, which provide so much texture, and the pink glitzy band just helps break up all the all-over alabaster action. A discrete band of edible pearls around each tier seems like the smallest add, but it makes a huge impression.

You can really do whatever you want for your wedding cake! Asking your florist to collaborate and contribute flesh flowers or bringing in superhero figurines to advise an adrenaline-pumping design are just a few other ways to help turn things up!
